Can community surveys be a convenient tool for conducting accurate, quick and cost-efficient survey for estimation of yield loss caused by Fall armyworm?
To my understanding famers perception could overestimate the real losses especially with the sudden arrival of a dramatic invasive pest like FAW. Would rigorous comparison of field trials with farmer estimates, preferably with individual farmers settle this ?
Dear Geoffrey, Yes your observation is right. for this we need to conduct two to three seasons studies both at research stations and farmers fields in different agroclimatic zones to get the actual loss caused by the pest . The loss also depends on climatic conditions, activity of native natural enemies.
Thank you
Sharanabasappa Deshmukh for this. When conducting this study its also important to check the activity of natural enemies.
