New mobile phone app ‘Nuru’, which uses machine learning and artificial intelligence, offers some hope in tackling FAW

Fall Armyworm is spreading fast across SSA, devastating crops and farmers’ livelihoods.

The  pest may eventually spread to the Middle East and Europe.

In a Podcast , Allan Hruska is the Principal Technical Coordinator on the Fall Armyworm response at the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). He  explains how the app works to help farmers identify if their fields have attacked.

Such apps are available. One such is Plantix app

Yes. We also tried to test a similar app and found the greatest limitation was cost of mobile data. Still, I enjoyed listening to the podcast. Thanks for posting Geoffrey
