Researchers from IARI report a rare phenomenon: #Gynandromorphism in #Fall armyworm.

Researchers from IARI serendipitously discovered a gynandromorph in a lab-reared fall armyworm. Gynandromorphism is a rare phenomenon wherein both male and female characteristics are expressed (Genetically and morphologically) in an individual. Individuals expressing both male and female characteristics are called Gynandromorphs. The occurrence of such an event is very very rare (1 in 8000).  One such rare event is reported in FAW.

As someone who looked at differences in migration capacity between male and female moths during my PhD, I found this fascinating. Thanks for sharing Vinod.
